Today is Tim's second day at Victor Valley College. I say Tim's because I did not get added into Anatomy which was the only class that VVC offered that I needed soooo Tim goes by himself. He is taking Astronomy and Botany and then an online course of Elementary Algebra. Astronomy fulfills his physical science requirement and it looks really interesting. It's descriptive so it skips the boring math stuff associated with Astronomy, plus his class is held in a planetarium. How awesome is that. All the seats lean back a little bit and there is a projector screen dome above the class where the teacher can do presentations. (And yes, Tim and I did overhear a girl ask the teacher in the hallway on the first day of class if this was Astronomy or Astrology and what the difference was. Obviously she was looking to learn more about Astrology because she didn't come into the classroom.)
As I said, Tim is also taking Botany. This class may seem even more random than Astronomy, but it fulfills his life science requirement. Human Biology, which is what most people tend to take for this requirement, was full. Tim doesn't have to have this class out of the way before we go to Long Beach, but we figured if he can complete it now and give himself more time for his classes in the Art Department later, he might as well! He said this class looks, uh, interesting...Well, if nothing else, maybe we'll be able to grow our own Dill and Basil after this. He said the book contains a bunch of info about how best to maintain a garden and such.
Tims math class is interesting. The entire thing is online, including the book and tests. Everyweek he has to complete 9 sections of homework, each setion containing 30-50 questions, and then he takes a quiz at the end. During the homework he has 3 shots to get the answer right, with that and having several math gifted friends, Tim's doing awesome with that! And no, even though it's all online and would be so easy to do, none of our friends are taking this class for him. Something about him needing to know this info on his own for when he gets to the next math class....
A big perk about attending a community college is that the teachers are a little more lax about what edition of the book you get. Sweet! We bought Tims 2nd edition rather than 3rd edition Astronomy book for 9 bucks and his 10th edition rather than 11th edition Botany book for 20 bucks. Unfortunately his stuff for his math class was one big package that he had to by through the school and that was 65 bucks. But honestly, who has spent less than 100 bucks on 3 classes textbooks?!
Other than school, neither of us are working much yet, we are reading the 4th Harry Potter which Tim still claims he is only reading with me because he enjoys spending time with me, I was able to walk 2 miles the other day without knee braces or arch supports and it wasn't till the end that my knees started hurting a little bit which as embarrassing as it is to say is a big deal for me and I had a dream last night that I was running, and Tim's birthday is coming up this Thursday and we plan to go to Disneyland for it! They are doing a cool promotion for celebrating your birthday there. And since we have a season pass, it looks as though we will get $69.99 towards Tims next season pass!
